Just got back from the game.

Felt it was a decent performance albeit against a relatively weak Newcastle side.

I felt we were the better team up to their goal, we were being positive, although not using the width, but playing good balls into feet for the strikers.

Then we failed to deal with a cross and it was 1-0.

The rest of the half was a bit of a non-event but for a few neat moves by each team.

Second half began in a similar way without much happening.

The second goal again came from a cross, which was well headed out of the box by Doherty, but unfortunately it fell to the only player on the pitch with a left foot capable of blasting a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, and duly did.

Several substitutions gave us renewed energy and purpose, with Henderson and McVeigh having particular impact, with the latter earning a deserved lifeline back into the game.

We had a few ranged efforts which Harper was equal to and then the rain came.

Overall, we mainly kept the ball on the deck and the midfield looked decent enough, with Henderson replacing Hughes (unless Croft signs).

The signs are fairly positive but it's hard to judge how good we are in a testimonial against an understrength Newcastle.
