I'd have been extremely pissed off if we'd paid anything like ?2m for Hulse

A ?2m winger, on the other hand, would have fitted the bill quite nicely. Or a ?1m winger. Or any winger, really, who knows how to play the position and can pass the ball, run fast and cross well.

We have strikers good enough to do very well at this level. What we do not have is a midfield, excepting the injury prone Safri. This also means that said strikers will not do as well as they "should" because they won't be getting good ball-to-feet, quality crosses hit with pace and accuracy, or clever balls from round about the middle of the park.

It would be quite nice to see us in for a few midfielders. It would also be quite nice to see Natale Imbruglia naked. Sadly I think my chances of seeing either are roughly equal :-(
