I assume this thing is formatted?

If you click on the icon in My Computer, does it show file system (e.g NTFS, FAT32) and free/used space? If so, you should be ready to go. However, if it says "Not Initialized", you need to right click, click on Initialize and follow the wizard

Personally, if you are wanting to replace your old disk entirely, I would have gone for an internal jobbie. Not only are they faster and more secure, they're usually cheaper. You can always find a friendly nerd to set it up for you.

I've got 2- one for all the programs, and one for photos and stuff (And Linux, but that;s a bit of a funky setup).
