Good question

It’s all very much open to debate but would a simple definition be somebody whose ancestors came from the same land mass over a an extended time period?

There are immigrant groups in the UK who have lived here since just after WW2 who may be 3rd generation and still identify with their grandparents country of origin. Can they be classed as English when they don’t identify as that themselves?
