It ascribes a two decimal place figure to the likelihood of goals being scored
Based on subjective data, thereby giving different outlets/calculators wildly different 'scores', while maintaining the illusion of accuracy because of the two decimal place figure.
Accreted across a whole season it can give a sense of whether a team is getting better or worse results than it 'deserves' based on the measured variables.
Not convinced it's better than a finger in the air guesstimate of someone watching.
Some love it.
