Alcohol ban?

I'm not the most biggerest fan of cricket, but have been to quite a few England games over the years. The odd day at the odd test, some one dayers. And based on those visits (some in cheap seats, some in more expensive seats, some in the corporate boxes) there is definitely a culture around cricket for many that involves getting absolutely s**t faced. Starting at 11, pushing on through the afternoon and leaving the ground in a bit of a state. Albeit, I have only a small sample of personal experience.

I remember a long time ago taking my parents to a one dayer, and we ended up sitting next to a group of lads from a cricket club. They all got hammered - like totally w**kered by the start of the final session. As the day crept to a close, two of them ended up in a fight with each other and got thrown out, a couple of them began taking other peoples seats and refused to shift for some time, one of them wet himself (seriously). Never seen anything quite like it, and my parents have never been back to the cricket since. I wrote to the club to Surrey to complain, and they basically said "oh well, you saw a full days play and we can't control people can we?".

I know very little about club rugby, but all the people I know who do club rugby are basically like Jeremy Clarkson's oafish younger brother. We all know the type. I suspect it's similar there too.

I guess we all laughed and thought it was brilliant when we read about Flintoff's bender after the ashes win. It felt a lot less funny watching/reading about players on the sauce when we were getting our arse handed to us by the Aussies.

Part of wonders whether the sport (including the fans) just needs to accept the sport for what it is, drinking culture and all.
