Well, yes. But we also employ military and police at our borders.

And we do control migration, whatever your opinion. As above, criminals are deported. In increasing numbers, as well.

A significant difference between UK and Poland is geography. We are an island with many 1000s of miles of coast. Sure, not all easily accessible, but the point remains that it’s not realistic to observe every part of it. Poland’s coast is the Baltic, not comparable. They have a strong border with the east for military reasons - unless we have the same reasons, why would we have the same? We’re not in conflict with the EU. It’s also further across land for African and southern migrants, with more internal borders in the EU. Whatever you think of that, it’s still an obstacle. The criminal element also makes more money selling passage across the sea. That’s not our country’s fault, and surely you must believe that the government is trying to prevent them. And as a humanitarian issue, I can’t believe that more than a small minority of people actually want people to be left to drown or worse, made to drown, in the North Sea or English Channel.

And of course, there’s history and language. English being a global language makes us a desirable destination and easier to reach than the US (although many try). Colonial history also still plays a part in the belief of many people that we are a welcoming and inclusive nation.

So I don’t think Poland is a proper like-for-like comparison.
