Sort of agree. But tbh many churches have been declining for decades.

We had huge old ones in Darlington that were carpet and kitchen showrooms, many in Norwich have been arts and antique centres or brass rubbing! for over 40 years. I think the ones I see doing well on a numbers basis are these evangelical mega churches, you see loads in old bingo halls in London, or warehouse sized places.
And of course it’s not pubs and nightclubs closing churches, they’re taking over empty churches that have been deconsecrated and possibly empty and unloved for years.
On a contrary point, and one I really am not qualified to talk about and not really effected by, I guess that many small local pubs that maybe once served the community around them actually have been effected by the varying ethnic groups that predominantly populate the area now due to them consuming far less alcohol. Im talking some of the northern towns and cities.
Oh and supermarkets. Although buy from them cos they’re cheap, I think they have an unfair advantage over the tax they pay in comparison to pubs.
Anyone in any government should be able to work out a formula that will help the proper local pub to pay less tax than the mega pub chains and supermarkets. Something like the PAYE taxable allowance, the first say £50k of annual turnover is tax free.
As usual, I dunno
