The thing about cheating, diving etc etc...

is that although we get outraged we secretly LIKE being outraged. It's a big part of the drama. Films (certainly thrillers) generally have to have a villain to be dramatic. You have to have someone to root for, good and evil etc etc, a reason to care what happens.
The fact is that the slimier aspects of football (along with selective interpretation of course!) are what mentally ALLOW us to picture our team as the force of good, the heroes, and the opposition as evil villains. And that's a big part of what makes us care so much and get so involved.
Can't live with it, can't live without it......
