It's an odd thing

on the one hand, he's the one who chose a random-allocation system for tickets. Once he did that, it was obvious people would then sell them on to people who wanted them the most, and so were willing to pay lots for them.
Plus, probably one reason why they got so many texts was that people wanted to sell them on. So the chance to put them on ebay meant more money going to his charity.

On the other hand, people do seem to get very worked up about people having to pay over face value for tickets (see the fuss about ticket touts on here), plus in this case people seem to think if you sell a ticket you're somehow exploiting the charity.

On the whole I (for once) find myself agreeing with you. Altho I think you would find if you asked him that St Bob doesn't like modern society very much.
