There have been countless changes at Norwich City during Kenny McLean’s spell at the club, but Neil Adams has remained the constant, and now the Canaries captain has led the tributes to the outgoing technical director.
Adams will step down as technical director at the end of the season, bringing to an close more than three decades of association with the club as a player, manager and senior figure behind the scenes at Colney.
Since returning to the club on the coaching staff in 2008 after a spell in the media, Adams has won the FA Youth Cup with the Canaries' under-18s in 2013, pioneered the club’s loan programme and assisted both Stuart Webber and Ben Knapper in their respective roles as sporting director.
After the final-day trip to Hull, City’s players will have a short break before returning for a 10-day training block under boss Philippe Clement. Adams will remain in post to support that period before stepping away from his role.
After City's final home game with Swansea last weekend, McLean pushed Adams in front of the Barclay for some personal adulation, with the fans rising to give the long-serving club figure a warm ovation.
The Scot explained post-match the impact that the 60-year-old has had behind the scenes for a prolonged period of time.
"Obviously, Neil's been in numerous roles and has given a lot of his life to this football club, and I hope everybody appreciates that because we do," McLean said.
"But away from what he's done in terms of his job title or his role, what a man. What an incredibly humble guy who'll go out of his way to help you, do everything he can for you and that's for me, that's the best thing you can have as a person. That's the best attribute you can have, being a good guy.
"That's what he's always been to me. He was one of the first people that I came across when I came to the football club, and I was very grateful for the relationship that I had with him. We wish him well."
