I can entirely see where you’re coming from. On the other hand I don’t know how much he has retained assuming competition winnings are essentially turnover from his business which also had to employ highly paid skilled staff and equipment, travel, etc and that he’s now 45 (if the person mentioned by SCC) and presumably retired a while ago and I have no idea what his income has been since then. He will still have a while to go to retirement and then retirement itself.

A big thing with sportspeople is that especially during their careers they are constantly begged for money from friends and family given their huge incomes.

And many especially those from a less wealthy background are bankrupt within 5 years of retirement because they’ve had so much siphoned off by those around them. They feel guilty and give. And when they retire they feel embarrassed to say no.

A million ain’t what it was. And so it’s rash to criticise. It’s different if it’s Elon musk.

If I’d been him and I’d have had the money I’d have given it. But we also don’t know whether he gave some as well.
