Not sure that going further back in time makes a 'fairer' comparison, but there you go.
As for the Lge 1 contracts point, all players will have had PL uplifts and we weren't recruiting expensive players from the likes of Man C and Villa and Forest.
The fact that Southampton spent £116m last season rather underscores my belief that we overpay on wages.
