It does give the illusion of hope which is OK.

I get the reasoning.

I think it could actually increase the average tenure of a championship manager because more teams will be within reach of "something"
Also more teams/managers will reach the playoffs so will be seen as some kind of success (TBF it didnt help Wagner here LOL)
