Unless we’re not

There was a lot of bullish talk preseason, on here, about promotion, playoffs and the like. Nobody predicted us being on 8 points going into November. Luckily the club took action when it did, and made a good appointment, which has been effective. There was absolutely no guarantee of success. If they hadn’t done what they did, God knows what we’d be looking at.

We’ve got 16 matches left. We took 9 (NINE!) points from our first 16. FWIW, I don’t think we’ll repeat that, but the fact remains, we did start that badly and we could tail off. There’s no room at all for complacency. I do agree with you that we *should* get enough points to stay up, but saying we *will* … it’s not like we haven’t been too good to go down before, is it? Remember 1985? 1995? Even 2005? (I’m just glad this year ends in a 6).

The next few games are a massive and strategic opportunity. A few more wins and we’re safe, bearing in mind the opposition. But, and it’s a big but, matron, those teams are fighting for survival and there’s little margin for error. It could well be a lot closer than we want to admit.
