He quite clearly wasn't awful

He was let down by his goalkeepers all having shocking seasons (or in the case of Long just being horrifically bad), did not have Mattson or a Mattson type player and he had a poor selection of centre backs for how he wanted to play.

Yes maybe he could have adapted more to what he had at his disposal but the team was looking pretty good until the senior pros seem to have undermined him.
