Well, if you'd transported me here from 20 years ago I may have

said I fully expect us and other countries to boycott both the World Cup and the olympics.

However, having witnessed how the already corrupt FIFA has become more and more corrupt and devoid of morals the last two decades - perhaps even worse since Blatter was replaced - I doubt it very much.

Will be interesting to see what happens from the American side too. Let's remember that for it to happen, Trump will need to allow teams and fans in from countries including:

Co hosts Canada and Mexico, both of whom he has threatened
Iran and Haiti who are both on his travel ban list
Algeria, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Egypt, Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay who are not yet on no travel list but have been marked on no immigrant visa application list.
All the European nations who are now opposing his stance on Greenland and being attacked with tariffs, perhaps even including Denmark itself.

And, along with Denmark, there are potentially more in the above categories who could still qualify.

I envisage, as we get closer to the summer, Trump attempting to use it as a threat in much the same way he is doing with tariffs now. Threatening travel bans for fans, perhaps even squads or even cherry picking certain star players of particular teams with bulls**t accusations.

I would be very happy if the whole of Europe and those on his travel ban just decide to boycott it, because there is zero chance that FIFA itself will do the right thing, which would be to move the hosting to Canada and Mexico only (and even if they do that, wait for Trump to threaten to close his borders and US airspace for flights from and to those two countries for a month).
