If he hadnt been there in Sept 22 we'd have just just had to sell more players that season and cut cloth accordingly thereafter. Sure, we'd have been languishing in the doldrums and maybe even L1, but its not like its been a bed of roses since is it?

As far as owners go they'll be fine and keep us treading water at our current level, which the old ones were never going to be able to do, but let's not glaze them and turn them into some white knights saving us from the brink.
