Yesterday we looked like a pre-season team v polished opponents
Things that annoyed me:
The lack of urgency from us until we were losing. Players just jogging around. No energy to the press.
The lack of clear tactics. What are we actually trying to do? We’ve gone from being over coached to no coaching. We don’t seem to have a strategy to score. Mostly we rely on fairly aimless crosses. It’s all vey well saying that the players need to find solutions but they are clearly struggling to do that. There are no obvious patterns to play.
A shape that means Cordoba and Medic are often on the ball trying to make things happen in the final third. Apart from the goal Stacey was unable to pose any threat at all.
The defending for the first two goals was appalling.
Too much sloppy passing.
A few consolations:
Pelle looked good and won the ball back several times.
Vlad made some great saves to keep the score down.
Gibbs did well when he came on and created the 2nd goal with a nice dribble. He did another one as well. One of the few times we actually took players on. Schwartau looked more effective when he came on too I thought.
I am normally at the happy clapping end of things but that was really bad and Manning needs to sort this out pretty quickly.
