Filters only work if people select them, and the messages you want filtered are from

posters, or accounts as I suspect some of them are better known regulars, who are desperate for attention levels they won't get by choosing a filter they know many will avoid.

It's only the attention they're looking for. Otherwise why on earth would they even bother? It's (meant to be) a football board with a pretty limited audience, so why would any sane individual think of spending half their day volunteering opinions that haven't been asked for on a message board for football fans of one specific club?

By far the best approach is to simply not engage. They are looking for the engagement, whether it's winding up people to agree with them, or to "debate", argue or simply get outraged and flounce. I know you think you are helping, and that pointing out glaring errors in their beliefs is going to help, but honestly that's what they're looking for.

Note that they also simulate engagement by using multiple accounts, which sadly seems to fish genuine members in. Stop it. Stop feeding the trolls. You're not gonna flip them, as it's a persona designed to troll.

Quite simply DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.
