Playing a WB system but not signing any good WBs doesn't make sense

It looks a like a system to put the wrong player in the wrong position, and then get the worst out of your other players. I don't understand how you look at the squad, Stacey, Fisher, Diallo and Schlupp and decide WBs is the best approach. From what I've watched it puts them in a position of neither defending well, or offering an attacking threat. Much prefer a back 4 with a full back and wider attacker that can double up in attack and defence rather than the half way house we've chosen. Sargent has scored 4 goals but had barely any service. Our 10s have yet to be involved in a match. Figure out how to play to Sargents strenghts, support him and work backwards from there.

Midfield also looks a concern. If you're going to play 3 CBs, you're light in midfield. The 2 CM have to be good defensive midfielders, one of them is Jacob Wright. He's young and not up to Nunez' or McLean's level.

Lots of individual mistakes yesterday (what changes?). For me it says the players are being asked to play in a way that they are not comfortable with and the opposition can force out of us. Hoff got pelters for it, Manning will too.

Even cutting those out we're going to need to see massive improvements in every area of the pitch to be competitive. Manning's talked about being flexible, all I'm seeing is a manager that isn't proactive with subs and is determined to play a back 3. We can give it until 10 games, I think we're going down the wrong path with it.
