When I say interesting, I mean a bit disturbing, in that players don’t seem to be progressing up the football ladder. Premier League teams are bringing through their own much more, having presumably scouted and poached them at childhood, and filling in the gaps with bijou items from deluxe foreign clubs. Championship teams seem to be looking for bargains abroad or standout lower league players, and there are few stepping down a level as they’re mostly seen as too old, and in any case they are a prized commodity for the Saudi leagues and maybe the MLS. Eternal second tier players are becoming the norm, making the already huge gulf even bigger.
