On a serious note, he's 23 and so at a make or break age, so I can imagine that

he might feel in a bit of a hurry and think it might be better to go somewhere he can focus on the new system, team and league rather than also struggle with the language for the first year or two.

Obviously the reasons why are steeped in less than glorious history, but the fact is that especially post war, being born a native English speaker is an absolute gift, and the UK has traditionally attracted lots of foreign talent to our shores rather than others because of the language.

(and is a big reason why some asylum seekers prefer the UK over other EU countries)
