Phew thoughts in the manager search
Whoever he is looking at, I hope Knapper is considering whether their style of play could work in the Premier League.
Without being 'wise after the event', I had concerns about Hoffball, even when results were better. I simply could not see his style of playing keeping us up, in the event we got promoted. We would be Southampton lite, but with worse players, and we all know how that has worked out this season.
We need a coach who can be adaptable and pragmatic, playing a style of play that can make us competitive in the Championship, while having a plan in the event we do manage to get promotion. Luton last season is a fair analogy. Even though they were relegated, they were the best of the bottom three (despite having the lowest transfer spend) by focusing on stifling their opponents and playing on the break.
The idea that we can ever assemble a good enough team to be successful in the Prem, while playing possession-based football, is a fantasy. So we need an adaptable manager who doesn't follow a possession-based dogma like JHT did.
