The need for testimonials is not so great in the modern game

Players paid so much more than back in the day , when they needed one last good payday at the end of a career so they could afford a pub or newsagents , to allow them to earn a living outside the game

If my memory serves me right the last couple of testimonials at Norwich the players have donated the money to charity or perhaps I’m thinking of another club
