Geopolitically, of course, your Vietnams, your Cambodias and so on are much more likely to pivot to China whereas hitherto the US has courted them as bulwarks against Chinese influence in the region. Hell even Japan and South Korea are making those noises and the EU won't be far behind.

Beijing doesn't need to do anything, just sit and wait for the pennies to drop into its lap. Indeed the reasons for not being as close to China as we were to the US - China's naked territorial ambition, poor human rights, general query over trustworthiness - now arguably apply to the US just as much as they do to China.

We wouldn't want to hold either particularly close but there is less reason now to favour Washington over Beijing.

Trump won't care about any of that or the standing of his country. He cares about himself and his power and the money he can extract from that personally, and for "his" people (a few oligarchs).

The world is changing and rearranging before our eyes.
