Know what ?

I always supported Scotland, Wales and both Irelands when not playing England. I also really liked the people.

Until I moved to Holland and had the opportunity to work and befriend many exiled people from those places.

After about 2 years I got thoroughly sick of it. I would now support Germany or Argentina against any of those teams except perhaps Wales. The Welsh are far more gracious about it and often do support England.

And it's not only football. The whole chip on the shoulder just pisses me off. They are constantly whining to get the sympathy of the world, and doing nothing for themselves. Yes, this is generalisation but it is very common, and while a Scottish or Irish accent used to be a good introduction to me, it now makes me wary. Which is racist, but after meeting soooo many and being in those places so many times it drove me nuts.

Having said that, two of my best mates are from and now live again in Glasgow and Cork. But neither of them has the same attitude (although they both do regarding the football).

The Irish are easy to get back at when you remind them that their most successful teams ever were predominantly English with an English manager. And they hate being reminded of it all the time with Andy O'Townsend being one of the pundits on RTE.
