Why would he do that deliberately? What was he trying to do? I presume the motivation was to impede the opponent getting around him, or was it just a reflex? He can’t have had time to consider what he was doing, otherwise he would surely have realised, accidentally or otherwise, hitting another player in the face would be punished. The only conclusion I can come to is that, given that it would be totally inexplicable to hit another player without provocation and I’m presuming he isn’t a psychopath, it was one of those examples of accidental dangerous play, like a mistimed tackle.
*I mean this fairly loosely, I’m not that interested
