I disagree

The whole point of a holding midfielder is to tackle and break up the play.

Get the ball, pass it 5 yards sideways or backwards to Beckham, Lampard etc, who can then do something with it. We have enough good passers of the ball in the team, hence why Carrick is not really needed for his passing ability.

Look at Makelele at Chelsea, the best holding midfielder in the world (probably) he cant pass, but boy can he tackle/break up play.

Personally i think Carragher did a good job last night and is a better option that Carrick. The only prob is, is that he might sit to deep!
