For me, and in no particular order

Webmail
Auctions (e.g Ebay)
Contact sites (e.g. FriendsReunited, Dating)
Job sites (e.g. Monster)
Online banking.

Just to stress I don't use all of these but just rate them from the point of view of what positives it has brought to the user's life and how succesful it's been for the application provider. Job sites, online banking and webmail have been a huge help to me in daily life.

Have purposely left out such basics as search engines, news sites, forums, hypertext links, web services as they are too obvious.
