They were a bunch of street-theatre lefties who campaigned back home on the sound platform of the Great Leap Backwards, where they would deconstuct modern society, appoint Bonnie Prince Geoffie as Lord and Sovereign, sack everyone including themselves, and "Leap Backward" to a feudal system. The theory as explained to me was "If it was so good in the good old days, if we go back far enough it'll be f**king fantastic".
Families would be allocated a plot to till or trade self-sufficiently. And in keeping with the spirit of Funism, every month you would do battle with you neighbours with a rolled-up-newspaper sword and flour bombs.
Other policies included post-natal abortion up to the age of 18. Very popular with those with teenagers.
