Transfer business - what's the best approach?
Being born and bred there I keep a keen eye on Shrewsbury still but don't see them much these days. From afar I am very impressed with the way they have gone about their transfer business.
First of all in the last 2 months about five squad / fringe players were released early from their contracts to let them have a better chance of getting a new club but for the club freeing up wages to get in new blood.
The manager then had five summer targets to improve the quality and has already got 4 of them in! Many other clubs were interested in some of them but being early has proved an advantage. All the new guys will have the whole of pre-season to settle in.
This must be the best approach but so different from what we hear - the old excuse about "no deals are done in May" is just defeatist.
