People are being too pessimistic about next season
Yes we are several grades of s**t compared to where we were two years ago, but we are still a top 10 Championship team. People forget the majority of the Championship is comprised of teams full of dross, and are intent on comparing the current squad with a team crowned champions two years ago. Look - Luton are 3rd in the Championship this season and are basically a long ball team with a striker we deemed not good enough at this level (Carlton Morris).
I think we have to accept unless we can somehow fluke the signing of another Beundia / Pukki partnership this summer - giving us the star quality to be top 2, we are likely going to have to settle for being a top 10 team pushing for a play off slot next season.
And the formula for a solid top 10 team in the championship is basically pretty simply. Look at one of Worthington's teams from 2000 - 2003. It's built on having solid experienced back 4 at Champ level, and a competent solid midfield. It got us to a play off final. It was only when we added the star quality of Huckerby did we secure the champions trophy.
And we really aren't a million miles away from getting the balance right. We need a new left back, and some more balanced wide players (Hernandez is hit and miss for me, Tzolis and Rasacha can go). And a new striker. I'd persevere with Sargent and Idah for now.
