Closest I have ever come to being seriously beaten up was outside the Brum ground

Early/mid 90s. We had just beaten them and I was (stupidly) wearing colours under a coat and I guess a but of yellow was still visible.

I remember seeing a big guy eyeball me and my friend who is, ironically, a Port Vale supporter. He made a beeline for us and stood blocking our path until another huge neanderthal friend joined him. At this point I spotted a copper, grabbed my friend and sprinted towards him.

Unbelievably, the two knuckleheads ran after us and continued to verbally threaten us, even as we were stood next to the policeman. We were then starting to be surrounded by a large crowd of Brummies, becoming increasingly hostile toward me and my friend.

The policeman read the situation and radioed for the police van to come up the concourse and pick us up. By the time it reached us we were being physically protected by 3 policemen, pushing the crowd away from us.

When the police van arrived, we were bundled in, only to be greeted by several other Norwich supporters who were pretty badly beaten and bloodied. Basically, we had got off lightly.

In summary, their supporters are absolute dickheads, so can completely understand your irrational dislike.
