Getting sacked for making a mistake seems a bit extreme.

On the other hand, VAR has been a shambles, total amateur hour since it was introduced by the Premier League. As you say, surely there is a checklist of steps… a protocol that needs to be followed. And by this stage surely the steps are second nature to any experienced ref? A total failure to do the basics simply cannot happen. Should never happen. And if you incapable of achieving the most basic output in your role. Well, sorry, thanks for coming.
