Have you read Gladwell's Outliers?

I think there's an interesting debate as to how far *extreme* success is replicable, and the impact of luck and opportunity in that.

(cf the large number of similar extreme failures who did much the same, but for factors outside their control...)

I'm a huge believer in personal agency, but think that we underplay the degree of luck in things and overvalue people who just happened to be in the right place and right time.
