The point being that a politician should have the nerve to state

"ignore my record; judge me on what I might do" - well, I don't have an awful lot to go on if I ignore the historical record, so it's nonsense.

Similar applies to Worthy. We can hope that he gets things right next season (ie. "keep the faith") and ignore the failures of the past two seasons, or we can examine the historical evidence (with more recent history carrying the most weight).

Similar applies to potential managerial recruits. We can stick a pin in the list and maybe land on a Wenger or, conversely, a McCarthy and have faith that they'll produce the goods. Or we can examine their records and methods, etc. and make an informed choice.
