Quality of the journalism dropped just before they put in the paywall

The free stuff has a fair few unreadable pieces.

And the ads are intrusive (to the point of making the site not worth visiting).

Have friends who worked for the local press, so I understand the dilemmas, but if you're wanting in depth analysis the the athletic, on sale, seems the best bet.

As discussed before, I didn't get enough from the Athletic trial to justify a full subscription, and the hassle of keeping on top of it, so it didn't roll over onto a full sub put me off too

Tough times for the press.
