I just found out loads of corners are bad.
More goals are scored per second of open play than per second of a corner.
Average goals per game is 2.82 in the prem last year. Say 100minutes per game which is on the generous side that's a goal every 2,127 seconds. If you assume 90s per corner then the fact that a goal results from every 33rd corner (which counts the next phase of play not just the first header/shot) is a goal every 2,970 seconds per goal.
So by having 20 corners (almost double the normal match total of 11 for both teams) actually made it less likely we would score.
