Press news in...
🧵 David Wagner and Stuart Webber have arrived for the new head coach's unveiling press conference.
------------------------------------------------------------------
DW: "Anywhere you go, you want to prove a point, prove yourself. I wanted to come back to England but I had to wait for the right opportunity."
DW: "For me the most important thing is, can we get something out of the squad now in the short term."
SW: “When it came to selecting a new head coach, it was about having a level of certainty. That’s why David is sat here.”
SW: "It'll take time for David to assess the squad, he'll have an idea around that. In terms of how we are aligned, that's clear from our previous working relationship."
SW: "Now is about getting down to hard work, working together and pushing each other. We challenge each other but that's for the benefit of the football club."
DW: "As I said when I walked through the door, it's time to leave the past in the past. We need to be the fittest team in the league, the fastest and the most aggressive."
SW: "We've never made it a secret that we want to play in the Premier League and to stay in the Premier League. We've got to find a way."
DW: "As you could see yesterday, we defended higher, won the ball higher up the field, much more energy. Not everything was great, it's a lot of work but I'm confident that we'll get it."
SW: "It's a job a lot of people wanted. It's a club that's grown off the scale in the last few years, a category one academy, a fantastic fanbase, it ticks a lot of boxes that people want."
DW: "It's important when you join a football club of this size, with this ambition, that you have people you can trust. Even if we do sometimes have a different opinion."
DW: "It's so important we take everything step by step. This counts for me and it counts for the players as well. You have to earn the right to get promotion. We will fight tirelessly, we'll do everything to make it happen."
DW: "It's up to every person in the football club, canteen, kitmen... We all have to believe in it. Easy, no. Possible, yes."
SW: “We want to get into the Premier League and stay there.”
SW: "Hopefully, people will see this as a new start and get behind but, ultimately, it comes back to us. We need to deliver."
DW: "It's much easier when you have a pre-season, and can influence more things over a longer period of time. It's different, as a person as well as a head coach. I'll have seen so far is hotel, football ground and training."
DW: "What you earn in the past, you will not get automatically again. That is what I've said to them."
DW: "There is some work to do. I have a lot of trust in my performance department. Even yesterday, I saw what the players delivered and it was on a different level to previous games. That was a good sign."
SW: "Traditionally, we've never done many deals in January. We were never in a position to announce six or seven deals on January 1. We never got too deep into it with Dean because it was always agreed we wouldn't be doing a lot."
DW: "Onel was very lively for 55 minutes but started to get tired. We need to be capable of producing these performances longer. Josh - we gave a few days off because of a busy World Cup period. For me, he's a central striker."
SW: "We can't recall Milot. With the rules of Brexit, it has changed everything. We wouldn't have been able to sign Pukki, Zimmermann, Stierpermann, Vrancic, Leitner. That has changed recruitment."
DW: “You have to work and fight.”
