Well yeah possibly.
But depends on how much of his reputation he staked on getting a particular manager vs doubt from others. I mean appreciate this is MASSIVE speculation but you could imagine, for example, Webber making a really strong argument for Smith - being absolutely convinced he was the man, etc. In a situation like that Webber is obviously going to want to give Smith more time than he would have done a manager that there was more of a consensus on. In the latter situation there is less of a conflict of interest.
Just giving it as an example - could be other conflicts of interest at play. Who knows. All speculative, but when a club isn't acting in a situation like this we are all going to start questioning why.
