Five at the back or two holding midfielders is fairly recent. That was the Euro 2020 edition. Look back at 2018 World Cup and it was far more fluid.

He tries to adapt to what he thinks is the best strategy to succeed I suppose. Sometimes he’s right and sometimes he is wrong.
