Tricky term patriotism
For me, I used to be very proud of how we went about things as a country.
I personally find that harder in recent years. There's still a hell of a lot of good about the people and the country, naturally, but I personally dislike any criticism of direction of travel being slapped down as unpatriotic.
If you're allowing a very small group of people to define what counts as being British then I think that goes against a lot of what innately makes us nifty.
Don't really want to start a debate, but did find reading the book "watching the English" for a gentle almost billbrysonesque take on it all quite enlightening. As was dating an Italian for half a decade.
