Reading of some of his exploits I'm not surprised some of maddest hardest bastards came out of there. He was once on leave in Cairo and when he returned his Platoon had been completely wiped out - killed or captured.

He then got assigned to the American army and was part of the Anzio landings (day2). They were stuck on the beach for a day and a night. It was a bit hairy.

Mind-boggling doesn't even begin to cover it.
