re Dowie....
....was thinking only the other day - why does everyone think he's a 'great manager'?
Watford players and manager kept saying this ahead of second leg - but isn't his recore eerily similar to Worthy's (who most of us think is a bit rubbish?)
Think about it:
Dowie: takes over a crap side
Worthy: likewise
Dowie: Turns them around and gets them to play-offs at first opportunity
Worthy: likewise
Dowie: gets to play-off final and win it
Worthy: gets to play-off final, lose on pens
So at this point we have a crap year - who knows what would have happened to palarce if they'd lost the play-off final. But we then storm the division the year after and win promotion
Dowie: fail to survive in the prem despite there being three other truly crap teams. Show some promise at times, but in teh end relegated on last day.
Worthy: Likewise
Dowie: Despite keeping squad together, never really challenge for automatic promotion, and lose in play-off forst round. P*ss off your fans with the crap football you play.
Worthy: OK, we got 13 points less than them and never even challenged for the play-offs.
But that's the biggest difference between them - enough to make Dowie a 'great manager'?
