There's a lot of supposition there

we've never seen Farke manage a Championship side without having Maddison or Buendia in the squad. In fact, in the few games those players were missing for Farke, our record was terrible. Who knows how he would handle this current squad?

Which isn't to say that Smith is doing well; I agree that some managers could get more out of this squad than Smith is doing. But I'm not sure how much more. We have a bigger squad and more depth than in previous seasons, but the best players simply are not as good. We don't have anyone close to the level of Maddison, Skipp, Buendia or Godfrey.

I think finishing somewhere between about 4th and 8th would be about par for this squad. It just doesn't look strong enough to me to finish top 2, regardless of who is in charge.
