The moon will look great
You can see bands on Jupiter and the main moons and Saturn's rings.
You might be able to see the ice caps on Mars.
Galaxies etc will look like smudges, larger scopes gather more detail.
I've got a 5" sct (computerised). Living in the city I opted for one that was portable, with good magnification - the astrobuy and sell classified site is usually okay for secondhand stuff. Refractors are nice and low maintenance. Newts are cheap. Sct and maks are compact with good magnification (but pricier). Dobs are bulky but good bang for your buck.
Depends on budget, really, and how dark your skies are.
