In both tournaments we lost as soon as we played someone decent apart from Denmark who frankly outplayed us and were very unlucky.

That Croatia defeat at the World Cup and Southgate’s utter failure to see what was happening and do something about it til it was too late still haunts me to be honest. I don’t get as worked up about England as I do Norwich but that was a tough one.

I’m not a militant Southgate outer. I just rally don’t rate him tactically or in terms of his selections. He foes seem to have some decent skills off the pitch in terms of developing a culture though. Perhaps he’s more suited to a director of football type of role.
