Nobody likes a bad thing to happen to the club they love

But they are falling into the age old trap of thinking that the people that work at YOUR club are not simply there, first and foremost, for the money and to build their own career.

Sure, they may like the area. They may grow some kind of affection - even deep affection for the club. But a bigger club comes knocking, with a bigger wad? They're gone, like that, and they'll never look back. There are more/less classy ways for that to play out, but the reality is always that.

"Sickening isn’t it. Almost like Wembley doesn’t mean anything. What an absolute arsehole."

I have on doubt Wembley meant an absolute tonne to AN - but not in the way the author means.
