It was a 3-0 defeat. 2nd Nov 1968.... City team was
1. Kevin Keelan (joined us in '64)
2. Dave Stringer
3. Geoff Butler (1st game for us)
4. Gerry Howshall
5. Ken Mallender (also his 1st game)
6. Terry Anderson
7. Kenny Foggo
8. Neil O'Donnell
9. John Manning
10. Hugh Curran
11. Tommy Bryceland (sub'd off)
12. Duncan Forbes
Subs in those days were normally only used for injuries so guessing the great TB was carrying one as he had missed the previous 9 games and was to miss the next 8. Geoff Butler and Ken Mallender had been bought to replace Freddie Sharpe and Laurie Brown both of whom had left us the month before the Millwall game. Interesting to see Big Dunc as a sub (he also wore the No 11 shirt that season!). Didn't become a regular till the following year. Other players making their debut that season included Max Briggs, Clive Payne, Bryan Conlon and Albert Bennett - he of the white boots. After a year out Terry Allcock played in the last 6 games, scored 1 goal and then retired.
And how do I know all this? Well I may also have been at the match with my Dad in the main stand but in truth I was still in short pants at the time.... mainly as I have a copy of the 1986 book 'Canary Citizens' which lists every City team since 1902 amongst many other fascinating features. Hope useful.
